Description
The Basilica of Saint Sabina was full of light that streamed in the selenite windows in high arches over the long and relatively narrow sanctuary. After Santa Sabina we spent some long period relaxing in the Giardino degli Aranci followed by what was the final Latin reading before turning down the Aventine via the lovely but somewhat oppressive Clivo di Rocca Savella onto the Lungotevere Aventino along the Fiume Tevere. The objective was a pizzeria along the Viale di Trastevere. We crossed on a ponte spanning the Fiume Tevere. I’m guessing we walked south along the Lungotevere Aventino to the Ponte Sublicio and then back north and east on the Viale di Trastevere. It seemed like a long walk, but then they all seemed like long walks. Having been in that neck of the woods (Trastevere) on the first evening in Rome I had a fairly certain idea of the path back I was accurate in my certainty. The last hill we climbed was up to our residence on the western slope of the Janiculum Hill near the Vatican.
