Description
I just about lost the Hat as I was dawdling in the circuitous passages running along the Abbey garden but finally leading to this chapel. I do not remember if I saw one last foot hit the narrow stairs or if there was some other clue, but up I climbed. Latin was being pursued with abandon. Although the pews were relatively new; the place was very old. One of the many exceptional additions was the use of screens on the window openings. Screens were a rare thing anywhere we went to in Rome, and indeed they appeared unnecessary. The sunlight was intense so perhaps the screens were in some fashion supposed to filter out a portion of the light. Or maybe the country birds down this way in Fossanova were not as bright as the city birds, and thus required encouragement to stay outdoors.
