Description
I was left to fend for myself and to find my way to Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini (Church of the Most Holy Trinity of Pilgrims) as it was obvious to the Hat that I was going to serve as the lagging rear guard & time was short to reach this church for mass. I did have trouble finding the location of this church edifice, but I enjoyed immensely the opportunity to stroll from one side of the Tiber to the other. The consequence of this sojourn was the ample opportunity to review from my downriver vantage the Ponte Sant’Angelo. I’ve read since that the three spans were built by the Romans, and the later two (I assume the outer span on either side) were built in the late 19th century to match the Roman work. It was obvious that this bridge was unique as it is rare to find one so festooned with statues.
