Description
This was a Campus Martius day. Upon much later review (studying maps) we spent a lot of time in Campus Martius over the course of the ten days. I went through the itinerary for this one something busy day to see how many of these places we actually visited during the course of the day. First on the list was breakfast at the lodging! I always made breakfast. Due to circumstance beyond the control of the Hat there were ad hoc changes made here and there.
On the list of I did not, I do not remember or I have no photographic evidence to wit:
• Pontifical Solemn High Mass at St. Peters - some did go
• Hostaria Costanza - lunch, too bad!
• Chiesa Sant Andrea della Valle
• Templum Hadriani
On the list of what we did, I do remember or I have photographic evidence to wit:
• Pantheon
• Chiesa Santa Maria sopra Minerva
• Chiesa Gesu
• Marci Aurelii Columna
• Chiesa San Luigi dei Francesi
• Chiesa Sant Agostino
• Chiesa Sant Agnese in Agone
• Ponte Sant Angelo
• Castel Sant Angelo
Cantina Tirolese - lovely German restaurant, and the only ristorante where one walked up the stairs to use the facilities instead of walking down a narrow flight to the usual location. On the list of added stops, and the only reason I really remember is that I have photographic evidence to wit:
• Chiesa della Santissima Trinita dei Pellegrini
• Baladin Open - this was lunch
• Piazza Navona
We also spent considerable time with a marble elephant. I had a short eyeball palaver with a floating gentleman in orange. We observed several Egyptian obelisks which various Roman emperors felt compelled to drag across the Mediterranean; up the Fiume Tevere; across the considerable landscape of the Campus Martius; and erect with suitable Latin texts at their bases. We sat under the glare of gargoyles turned into lamps to read Latin. We made several important stops for espresso with two raw sugars - very important stops! It would be logical to make the Piazza Navona my favorite stop of the day because it was seeping into the evening, there was a festival in the piazza.
