Description
We came from the Pantheon across a short walk into the Piazza della Minerva to be faced with the siesta rejection at the doors of the Basilica di Santa Maria sopra Minerva. If it there were no wedding then there was siesta! That allowed for a great deal of Latin at the Elephant and Obelisk. Since most of that discussion for me might as well have been Greek, I had time to look around. There was on the piazza what turned out to be the Grand Hotel de la Minerve. I would have photographed this place in a thunderstorm as it had very attractive and large windows that essentially created the whole of its facade. The only signal that this might be some sort of commercial facility were the big capital letters MINERVA between a row of windows. When people started hanging out of the windows and waving to a women leaving in a car that made photos essential. I think it was grandma. It took a while for the car to finally drive away. Various characters came to the window looking & waving. Recently I looked to see if this place is on the map. Take a gander at the rooms on the hotel’s web site. I probably won’t be staying there any time soon.
