Description
We set out in the morning on the bus and the train to Ostia Antica. Ostia Antica took all morning to walk around, and finally to sit in the shade of the omnipresent pine trees on the steps of the Temple of Ceres. Latin was read in the quiet shade in front of the Roman teatro. It was lovely spot to read. Eventually it was time to move out, and fortuitously we headed for on open air lunch at the La Fraschetta del Borgo. Lunch was platers of cheese, Italian meats, bread, and of course, bottles for acqua frizzante. There was wine, but the water always meant much more to me. Across the street was the Piazza Umberto I which I now take to be the outer side of the Piazza della Rocca which we would see after our long restful & conversational lunch. Piazza Umberto I looked to be something almost commercial, and definitely not a piazza at this late century. It also looked residential so Im not sure what it was except visually attractive, restful, and pleasantly reminiscent of some Italian past washed away in the overflowing of the Fiume Tevere coursing through the streets of Ostia Antica.
