Description
It was 1978 in Los Angles and I was taking a black & white photography class from John Sexton at Cerritos College. The class was scheduled for Friday evenings. John Sexton was photo products clerk at Fedco earning cash to buy chemicals & paper, living at home, and developing & printing in a dark room built in his parents garage. He sold his prints for $15 each. In one of the classes we took a field trip downtown LA to a warehouse district to take photos of derelict doors hanging in derelict buildings. As we worked our way out of the Palatine and down to the Mamertine Prison I could think of nothing else but John Sexton. I was game but thought it odd to drive all the way into LA to take photos of doors. Now I was thousands of miles from Michigan taking photographs of ancient derelict buildings and doors. I was still very much game. I signed up for the same Friday evening class again the next quarter.
