I was out for a walk along Okemos Road and what should I find behind the seasonally closed restrooms but some very gorgeous birds. They were quite ready to defend themselves, but roused themselves only a little as I approached. I am a fan of eating chicken, and observing other birds of all sorts. Chickens generally do not fall into the class of birds that I find visually attractive. These birds had exceptional coloration, and demanded little in compensation in exchange for my taking their photographs.
My subjects are both natural and architectural. I am interested in textures and shapes and how light and shadow play on those objects often creating new ones. I use a Nikon D-800, and an iPhone 10s Max. I make every effort to compose in the camera and thus I crop infrequently. I use Lightroom, Photoshop & NIK to work with highlights & shadows which often brings out the elements in a photograph for which I have primary interest. I have no hesitation using any other tool if the results make the photograph work. My preference is to do nothing to a photograph presenting it as it was taken.
