We missed the bus stop before the Via di Porta Cavalleggeri traffic tunnel that takes one under part of the Janiculum Hill. At least, I think that is the purpose it serves. In any case, this necessitated walking back through the tunnel as the appointed restaurant was back through the tunnel up and around the block across from the Tiber River. The tunnel is awash in speeding cars, speeding motorcycles, and roaring echoes, It had been a long day of walking from one basilica to another, reading Latin, and then moving on to the next church with another session of Latin. The visit to the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls (San Lorenzo fuori le mura) was longer & more laid back. After going into the basilica we met in this outdoors, but steel gated entryway as the Roman sun descended into the west. The light was fantastic. The walk back in the tunnel the restaurant was not, as was the required return through the tunnel to reach the road up to our residence. The sisters had a curfew...

My subjects are both natural and architectural. I am interested in textures and shapes and how light and shadow play on those objects often creating new ones. I use a Nikon D-800, and an iPhone 10s Max. I make every effort to compose in the camera and thus I crop infrequently. I use Lightroom, Photoshop & NIK to work with highlights & shadows which often brings out the elements in a photograph for which I have primary interest. I have no hesitation using any other tool if the results make the photograph work. My preference is to do nothing to a photograph presenting it as it was taken.
