Description
There are actually three chiesa at the Tre Fontane. This one is Sancti Pauli ad Aquas Salvias. The first edifice in this spot only lasted a 1000 years or so. The one seen in this photograph was built in 1599. Who knows if it is a short-timer or not? I don’t know if that is Saint Paul lurking on the roof, but he does have his own little patch of brown weeds to keep company. I love the arches, triangle, and swooping lines. The brick work with its clean lines only enhances the visual interest of the facade. We read a fair amount of Latin standing, leaning, and sitting in the shade of the chiesa.
