We spent a long time at and around the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls with lunch, reading Latin in what looked to be a park (turned out the Americans parked a lot of tanks there during WWII), and waiting. There was a rather relaxed touring of the Basilica both outside and inside. The Hat was working most of the time, but here there was time together to stroll, chat, and shoot at some leisure. They have excellent modern restrooms with toilet seats actually in place. This is an important fact. Remember it! We waited outside I think for a mass to commence, but it is unclear to me six months later. The last photo I have from there was taken at 5:18 P.M. As it goes many of these glorious edifices were all about the insides and not the outsides. My subjects are both natural and architectural. I am interested in textures and shapes and how light and shadow play on those objects often creating new ones. I use a Nikon D-800, and an iPhone 10s Max. I make every effort to compose in the camera and thus I crop infrequently. I use Lightroom, Photoshop & NIK to work with highlights & shadows which often brings out the elements in a photograph for which I have primary interest. I have no hesitation using any other tool if the results make the photograph work. My preference is to do nothing to a photograph presenting it as it was taken.
